Maize Meal / Corn

Maize is packed with nutrients and lots of flavour, it is thus easy to see why so many maize products are enjoyed all over the world. Maize is an exceptionally versatile product and in turn is offered in a number of popular finished products.

South Africa is known to supply a very high quality maize which is a staple food grown and harvested on many farms throughout South Africa. Its ability to survive all kinds of elements is well matched to its versatile nature and SA is currently the largest producer of maizemeal in Africa. It also exports surplus produce to many parts of the world. Maize is better known as corn in many other countries.

  • Maize meal or mielie meal as it is known in South Africa.

  • Maize flour is a process of maize conditioning. It can be prepared and cooked in some very tasty recipes

  • Braai pap is a course form of maize meal/mielie meal and is used extensively at a barbeque/braai where braai pap is served with a sauce of your choice(gravy, chakalaka etc.)

  • Samp consisting of dried corn kernels that have been stamped and chopped until broken but not as fine as maize meal. The coating around the kernel loosens and is removed during the pounding and stamping process. It is eaten with beans(samp and beans) and/or withbeef, lamb, poultry, curry etc.
